Candidate for General Secretary Social and Cultural | Ayushi Thakur | 2019–20
PROPOSAL 1:
My first proposal is to introduce training seminars and workshops for students before selections for the Inter-IIT Cultural meet. These seminars and training sessions will be conducted at Netaji/Kalidas auditorium and Vikramshila Complex by events’ captains. The workshops will refine the raw talent of the students into specific arts required in Inter-IIT events. Further workshops will be provided for those selected for final representation at Inter-IIT by judges from various academies/theaters from Kolkata.
Requirement:
To encourage participation from all the sections of the student community, open to all workshops for various genres need to be organised. Also, there is a need of proper guidance from professionals of various academies for all the genres for the contingent of inter IIT cultural meet to polish the skill set of the students participating in Inter IIT Cultural Meet and the individuals/groups selected for inter IIT cultural meet to get optimum on stage practice along with the expert advice so as to prepare for the actual performance at the competition.
Operation:
Since there are 9 cups in the Inter-IIT Cultural meet, we can provide different slots for seminars and workshops. We will be having the seminars going on throughout the week by a professional of each genre. Experts will be providing students with inputs from their side and could finalize the individual/team for the final representation for some of the events.
Benefits:
Training seminars and workshops will give students an opportunity to enhance and exhibit their cultural skills. More awareness about events would be created among students. The number of candidates for selections would increase as people get an opportunity to learn. Every year, there will be an improvement in the quality of participation of the IIT Kharagpur contingent.
Annexure:
Open to all workshops will be conducted in the first week of October by the event captains. It will be followed by the contingent selections for various genres by the judges from various academies/theatre from Kolkata. Workshops will be organised for the contingent in December which will be conducted by professionals from various academies /theatres from Kolkata.
This proposal was encouraged and considered feasible by Mr. Utkarsh Sinha(Contingent Captain, Inter IIT Cultural 2018), Mr. Dhaval Chauhan(Captain, Dance Cup Inter IIT Cultural Meet 2018) and Ms. Nastassja Rai (Captain, Fine Arts Cup Inter IIT Cultural Meet 2018).
PROPOSAL 2:
My second proposal aims to introduce online booking of auditorium and rooms through an online portal.
Requirement:
We need to increase the number of meeting hubs wherein students can meet, interact and discuss various ideas for the overall development of the community as a whole. Also, societies find the process of booking auditoriums or classrooms time consuming and cumbersome. Even to know the availability of rooms and auditoriums the students have to visit the academic/establishment section. Thus, there is a need of online portal to make this process efficient and easy.
Operation:
A portal can be designed where the availability of the room and the auditoriums can be known. Any student can book the room or auditorium based on the availability by creating a simple login where the login id will be their roll number and the password will be personalized. Once the student makes an application for booking of a room by providing a appropriate reason for the requirement of the room, he or she will have to choose a PTI or faculty who will approve their application. Once the application is approved by the faculty, the same can be verified by establishment/academic section and a approval mail along with booking receipt can be forwarded to the student. The student, then can submit the copy of receipt at the security office.
Annexure: I have talked to Mr. V V Pramod(Assistant Registrar, Establishment and Personnel Section) and Mr. Joydip Kuila who handles the bookings in Academic Section. Both of them expressed their need for such a portal and how it would make the procedure very easy.

PROPOSAL 3:
I propose to initiate a Social Cause every year for the students of IIT Kharagpur under the ambit of Technology Students’ Gymkhana.
Overview:
We have a sizable portion of the institute populace who would like to engage in various social activities. A social cause is a problem that influences a considerable number of individuals within the institute.
Each and every year Spring Fest has a Social Initiative, to spread awareness amongst budding youth. Spring Fest has associated with various NGOs for Social Conclave for many years now. These events aim to sensitize the general student populace and intends to affect the nearby regions in Kharagpur. This event not only will include the student and the residents of IIT Kharagpur but also the youth and population in Kharagpur.
NSS has been playing a very crucial role to contribute towards the overall development of the youth and people living nearby. Social cause will add to this change and show IIT Kharagpur as an Institute with emerging social advocates.
Conceptualization:
The theme for every year would be decided unanimously by the Social and Cultural Committee. Concerned NGOs, NGOs working for the particular social issue, would be contacted. Committee along with the collaborating NGOs would conceptualize the events and its overall flow.
Every year the Technology Students Gymkhana will endorse a Social Initiative and put up various events, workshops and guest lectures in association with various NGOs.
The events that would be formulated will seek the participation of the student body. The events could be drafted in the form of competitions and would eventually take a form of an Open IIT event.
Benefits:
1. The inclusion of these events is a great way to channelize the efforts made by the students towards a social cause.
2. Enhancing social belongingness among the student community.
